The version field is a handle, not just a counter. GET /api/v1/documents/{document_id}/versions lists every version; add ?version=1 or ?as_of=2026-03-15 to retrieve the file that was relied on at a given point. Views are logged separately - GET /api/v1/documents/{document_id}/access-log returns who opened the document and when.
